Richard W. Dick Heintschel, I, age 84, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away Friday, August 27, 2010 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 17, 1926 in Toledo to Edward and Ruth Goetz Heintschel. Dick served his country in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Fire Drake, an ammunitions warship. The USS Fire Drake was attached to the USS Missouri Task Force in the South Pacific. He was an Executive with Schindler-Haughton Elevator Company for 43 years, retiring in 1990. Dick was one of the project managers for the Twin Towers project in New York. Dick served as President for Escalator Safety, and traveled the world especially to Switzerland with Schindler-Haughton. Known as a jack of all trades, Dick was a talented carpenter who could fix or build anything. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, swimming, gardening and grew up on Wamplers Lake. One of Dicks most memorable experiences was traveling to the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC with his son Ron, on Honor Flight. Dick was a published author and wrote about his service on the USS Fire Drake. His book the USS Fire Drake is in the Library of Congress and the Naval Historical Museum. The widower of Helen Heintschel and Joanne Heintschel; Dick is survived by his children, Richard Katharine Heintschel, II, Ronald Karen Heintschel, Ruth Dan Petersen, Lynn Kevin Carder, Leslie Michael Schmuhl and Paul Diane Forquer; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Angela Edwin Petsche, Anne Marie Tim Etue and Barbara Nelson; brothers, Edward and Thomas Marilyn Heintschel; and sister-in-law, Joanne Heintschel. In addition to his parents and wives, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, Monsignor Donald Heintschel and James Heintschel. Family and friends may visit Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 2-8 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:00 am.
