Scott Richard Pope

Scott Richard Pope, age 83, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Swan Creek Retirement Village. The son of Joseph Lindsey and Isabelle Hartshorn Pope, Scott was born on September 21, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Scott then attended the University of Toledo. Scott married the love of his life, Bonnie Hooven on August 5, 1950, she preceded him in death in 1999. He was employed by Libbey-Owens-Ford for 35 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1981. Scott was very active in American Legion affairs. Having been a long time member, he was a Past Commander and Adjuctant at Vernon McCune Post #137. He and his wife enjoyed preparing food for the Lunch Bunch every Tuesday at 12 noon at the Post. He was also a 60 year member of the Paragon Lodge #788 F. & A.M. and also belonged to the Fasset Street Group. Scott and Bonnie traveled extensively through all the fifty states making sure that they went to every state capital, finishing off with a visit to Hawaii in 1991 for the 50th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor. He is survived by his daughters, Ellen Carl Reuter and Judith Dennis Willett; daughter-in-law, Helen Pope; grandchildren, Andrea Thomas Corriher, Carl Trey Janeen Reuter III, Erin Reuter, Alexander Moly Pope, and Benjamin Pope; great-grandchildren, Zachary Corriher and Ella Reuter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; son, John Pope; sister, Elizabeth Layman and brother, James Pope. Friends and family may visit at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd. on Wednesday from 5 to 9 pm and Thursday from 3 to 9 pm with a Masonic Service on Thursday at 7 pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday at 11 am. Interment will be Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospitals or the American Legion.
